Glassy Effect in Photoshop

This simple, yet stunning, tutorial from Designing Mall, will give you tricks to make good looking glassy effect

Step 1:

You have to start with new file, name it DesigningMall, width 500 pixels, height 400 pixels, RGB Color Mode and resolution 72.
Then use “Gradient Editor” to fill with three color gradient (drag diagonally: left-top to bottom-right). I have used, Color 1: #302828, Color 2: #8c1717 and Color 3: #d80909.

After using the gradient the result will be like this

Step 2:

Write your desire letters (words or even sentence, according to reqirement). Use appropriate font through which glassy effect can be rendered properly. I have used very common font, Arial Black and I have written DM (Designing Mall)

Step 3:

This is the most important but a bit lengthy step. You have to apply different layers styles. So don’t worry, just try step by step process according to my screen shots and don’t try to finish all effects so quickly. Relax and move ahead gradually.

This is the result, which you will get.

Step 4:

Insert a new layer. Hold down Ctrl key and Click on Text layer on which recently we have applied layer styles. That text area will be selected. Apply white to transparent gradient coming from bottom to top. Change the blend mode to overlay to make it fade

Step 5:

Insert a new layer again, and again hold down Ctrl Key. Again apply white to transparent gradient but this time from top to bottom and set the opacity to 45%.

Step 6:

While selecting the recent layer on which we have applied gradient from top, Take selection tool and draw an ellipse. Make inverse selection by Ctrl + Shift + I. Press delete to remove the inversely selected area. This will give a glassy look. You can make some experiment by cutting through different ways.

Step 7:

The only thing left is the sparkling effect. For this purpose, just select the polygonal tool, star and give suitable value (shown in screen shot). Don’t forget to set foreground color white. Make a reasonable size and place on suitable position. 3 to 4 stars are normally enough. You can increase or decrease the quantity and size according to you requirement. So here is the result of your effort, pretty nice one.
